It was love at first sight when we first walked into this grand property on February 13th 2003 and from our purchase the very next day (Valentine’s Day of course..!!) our aim has been to offer Clydesdale Manor as a welcoming retreat for adults.
Our love for the property remains and during Winter and Spring 2008 we carried out an extensive refurbishment which was inspired by Lady Henrietta Spencer-Churchill who is regarded as Europe’s leading interior decorator of Georgian estates.
While each guest room has an array of appropriate features including individual heating, a fully stocked mini bar, tea and coffee making facilities, a selection of quality Tasmanian and international magazines, multi-channel TV, telephone, iron and ironing board as well as a “Goodies Box” offering a selection of quality Tasmanian products we understand that guests have differing needs and it is with this philosophy that we offer a variety of individually decorated rooms.
Both our Garden Spa Suite and Secluded Spa Suite typically appeal to guests celebrating special occasions such as honeymoons, anniversaries, birthdays, or simply any couple celebrating being in love..!!
A seductively comfortable queen bed, rich luxurious window furnishings, leather sofa, CD player, opening windows allowing you to breathe in the invigoratingly fresh Tasmanian air, French doors leading to your own private veranda overlooking the rear garden, and not to forget, the bespoke 2 person spa bath tailor made to our exacting standards all add to the appeal of these rooms.
Is it any wonder we have been named as Tasmania’s Most Romantic Retreat for 2 consecutive years..!!!
Offering glorious views of the imposing Mount Wellington these very spacious air conditioned rooms are sought after by couples seeking quality time together and also by individuals wanting to escape from the demands of a hectic work life.
Typical furnishings include our heavenly king or queen beds, thick sumptuous window furnishings which defy any light to upset your slumber, timber venetian blinds, leather sofa, wing back chair, CD player, double glazing, walk-in shower bay in the compact but modern heated ensuite.
Guests are amazed by the size and quality of our light and airy deluxe rooms.
Typical features include our blissful queen beds which ensure a delightful night’s rest, carefully selected window furnishings, leather sofa, opening windows for those who enjoy fresh air, and a walk-in shower bay in the compact but modern heated ensuite.
Our Drawing Room is for the exclusive domain of our guests and while it is naturally appealing during the colder days when the log fire is blazing it is an equally delightful room at other times of the year.
Featuring the finest silk fabric from Jim Thompson, wallpaper especially sourced from the UK, a Georgian card table dating back to c1830, a modern Italian chandelier (the only one of its kind in Tasmania), and a choice of plump, comfortable lounges in which to snuggle up the drawing room resembles an exclusive English Gentleman’s Club without the associated rigours of formality.
Indeed our guests are often drawn here to read that novel they have had since last Christmas, develop an itinerary for the following day, catch up on some dreaded paperwork, sample our eclectic range of CD’s, or enjoy one of our special cocktails, some French Champagne or a premium Tasmanian Wine from our licensed bar.
Originally the veranda from which Mrs Woolley, the first lady of the manor, and her guests sipped tea while watching the gentlemen enjoy a game of lawn tennis the Dining Room now is the domain of more sensory pleasures.
Facing east and overlooking the formal rear garden our Dining Room provides the perfect setting in which to let time slip away.
The Dining Room is flanked by 2 imposing Regency Sideboards (c1810) and offers an individual table for each guest room. Small touches such as fresh flowers, crisp damask tablecloths and, relaxing background music all add to the experience.
From the outset we decided not to offer the traditional “fry up” of bacon and eggs as not only does the smell permeate everywhere but we know from personal experience that when you are travelling for a time it is boring to be offered the same fare each day.
Instead we offer a daily set menu which is both innovative and contemporary and guaranteed to set you up for the day. A sample of our table de hote menu (chef’s menu) offerings include;
Fresh Blend of the Day |
Mandarin Oriental |
| Lemon Delicious | |
| Mango and Passionfruit Lassi | |
Fruit Option |
Breakfast Trifle of local rhubarb, caramel yoghurt and homemade muesli |
| Our own delicious Bircher Muesli | |
| Fresh Fruit Plate | |
Hot Option |
Asparagus Tart with tenderly poached free range eggs and homemade hollandaise sauce |
| Cheddar and Spinach Custard | |
| Individual Salmon Frittatas |
And as breakfast is not typically included in your tariff it allows you the perfect flexibility to decide each day if you wish to indulge or not.
With suitable notice we are happy to prepare light lunches and offerings will depend on seasonality and availability of produce.
Again, with advance notice we are happy to offer in house dining options for our guests including Candlelit dinners for 2 with either a Seafood Platter and a chilled bottle of premium Tasmanian wine (or French Champagne) or perhaps a grazing plate of antipasto with local cheeses and a bottle of Pinot Noir for which Tasmania is renowned.
Should either the Lunch or Dinner option appeal simply discuss with us when making a booking and we are happy to oblige. Also, if you have any dietary requirements please mention these at time of booking so that we may accommodate your needs.
